Diabetes & pregnancy

Whether you've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, or you're managing pre-existing diabetes during pregnancy, this is a time when good care matters — for you and your baby. We work alongside your pregnancy care team to make sure your diabetes care and your pregnancy care move in step, not in separate directions.

Our approach

Pregnancy moves quickly, and diabetes care during pregnancy needs to keep pace with it. Blood glucose targets, medication needs, and monitoring can all shift as your pregnancy progresses — which means fast, clear communication between everyone involved in your care isn't a nice-to-have, it's essential.

Siana is a Registered Midwife Credentialled Diabetes Educator with experience caring for women with diabetes in pregnancy and gestational diabetes, including the use of diabetes technologies before and during pregnancy, across both hospital and community settings. Siana also experienced gestational diabetes in each of her own three pregnancies, and has family members living with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This has led to her passion for providing clear and accessible information at all stages of pregnancy, pre-pregnancy, or after your baby has been born and you are adjusting to your new (or bigger) family. Our care is designed to support you from a place of empathy and genuine understanding; not just knowledge of the guidelines, but an appreciation of what it's actually like to live it as well.

Planning a pregnancy?

How we can help

We offer shared care for women with gestational diabetes or diabetes in pregnancy, working directly and promptly with your specialist, midwife, obstetrician, GP, and any other members of your care team. Rather than you having to relay information between appointments, we make sure the people caring for you are genuinely on the same page — so decisions can be made quickly when they need to be.

Support that doesn't end at birth

Our support doesn't stop once your baby arrives. What comes next depends on your situation:

If you're living with diabetes, we continue to provide ongoing care and support well beyond pregnancy, as your management needs change again in the postpartum period and beyond. This can includes support in managing adjusting insulin or medication needs after the birth of your baby (and whilst breastfeeding, if breastfeeding), breastfeeding and lactation assistance, and emotional wellbeing, according to your needs and goals.

If you had gestational diabetes, having GDM increases your risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life. We're here to support you in the months and years after birth — with practical information and guidance on staying well and reducing that risk, not just a checklist handed to you on your way out.
